A body suspected to be that of a 12-year-old Shamva girl who went missing on the 28th of July has been found in an advanced state of decomposition on a nearby mountain.
The body was found on Bester Mountain last Thursday, amid indications that it is that of a 12-year-old Alana Topo from Radardale Farm compound in Shamva who was reported missing in July.
Mashonaland Central Acting Police Spokesperson, Assistant Inspector Naison Dhliwayo said police have since launched an investigation after the body was found by a man searching for firewood on the mountain.
“Police in Mashonaland Central province are investigating a case of suspected murder after a human body was found dead at Bester Mountain on 16 September 2021 at 1200 hours by Mafken Chigwenzi who was searching for logs. A report was made at ZRP Shamva, whilst at the scene Robert Mandela positively identified a grey jacket as that of his niece Alana Topo who went missing sometime in July 2021,” Assistant Inspector Dhliwayo said.
Topo was last seen in Shamva town centre after going to sell reed mats with her friend.
She was reportedly approached by an unknown man who claimed he wanted to buy reed mats at a nearby mining compound. □
