RAFFINGORA – An 83 year old woman is overjoyed following receiving a brand new wheelchair from Minister of Local Government Deputy Minister Marian Chombo to help her mobility.
Emma Kadzungu of Kamwaza Township said she was elated in receiving the wheelchair after facing challenges with her legs for over two years resulting in her family to carry her around or push her in a borrowed wheelbarrow.
“I thank God for sending people like Minister Chombo for us as her timely donation has come at a critical point in my life as I was becoming a huge burden to my family who had to help me move around and sometimes they would push me in a borrowed wheelbarrow for me to get medical attention at the local clinic,” an elated Gogo Kadzungu told Zimbabwe Voice as she was relaxing under a shade of a mango tree at her home in Raffingora recently.
Chombo who is the Zvimba North Constituency House of Assembly Representative is also ZANU PF Mashonaland West Women’s League Secretary for the disabled.
Minister Chombo sourced the wheelchair after an sos from Kadzungu through the Raffingora ZANU PF District chairlady Asenari reached her.
The elderly woman had not been able to walk for more than two years and her family members would carry her when she wanted to go to the clinic or church.
Residents of Raffingora thanked Chombo for coming to the aid of Kadzungu, “We are so happy on what our Mp did they didn’t do it only for her but for the community as a whole as now it’s easier for gogo to visit us unlike in the past where she was usually confined inside the house,” a neighbor Rose Chikoto said
Kadzungu also received some groceries for her family from Chombo who was accompanied by Zvimba ZANU PF District Coordinating Committee chairperson Bywell Mbiri who has been supporting the family with monthly supplies of maize from his farm.
Most disabled people are failing to access wheelchairs due to the high cost. ■
