GOVERNMENT has further elaborated on prohibition of intercity travel reiterating that under the National Lockdown Level four, intercity travel is prohibited except for essential services and for humanitarian reasons of which proof of this will have to be provided.
On his twitter handle, the Permanent Secretary in the Information, Publicity and Broadcasting Services ministry, Nick Mangwana noted that this therefore means travelling between Harare and Chitungwiza and Harare and Norton is prohibited.
“Traveling between Harare and Chitungwiza is “intercity travel” therefore prohibited except for essential service providers only. Same applies to Norton.
Statutory Instrument 198 of 2021 defines intercity travel as “between any cities or between municipalities or towns established or deemed to have been established in terms of the Urban Councuils Act”.
It does not include travel between an area under jurisdiction of a local board and a city, municipality or town that is within the same council area as the local board.
“Regarding intercity travel, members of the public are urged to only leave their homes if they are going to provide an essential service, going to businesses permitted to operate under Level four, or seeking food or medication within a 5km radius,” read part of the statement.
