- The toll of the destruction continues to rise on a daily basis and villagers now sleep in the open for fear of being the next victims...
Matepatepa community of Bindura is living in fear amid revelations that houses at Tolero Farm are being set ablaze at random by a mysterious fire for eight consecutive days.
Fifteen houses have been reduced to rouble by the mysterious fire which is striking daily since the 27th of June, in a development that has left residents dumb-founded.
“The fire started from the top. We struggled to put it out and salvage property. Five minutes after removing property, my other small building caught fire,” explained Tawanda Chigumbira.
Another villager, Spen Tauzeni, said, “The fire started from the top. One of my buildings was burnt on Sunday and the other on Tuesday.”
“I was at work when my house caught fire on Tuesday and I don’t even know what transpired. So I rushed here crying that my foodstuffs have been burnt. We are sleeping outside in fear that our houses may catch fire while we sleep,” said another villager, Maud Grey.
ZBC News reports that its crew was recalled to witness the mystery shortly after leaving the farm when a house caught fire.
Cain Mubairakuenda, a resident said, “I didn’t think my house would also be affected. I had gone out and was even discussing with other residents about this problem when I was called that my house was on fire.”
Village chairman Ernest Chasvika has since made a distress call on behalf of the community after self-styled prophets failed to come up with a solution.
“Together with the village head we came to see the problem. On Thursday a house caught fire. Friday another caught fire and yesterday Sunday four houses caught fire. Some prophets have come and said they can stop this problem, but nothing has changed. So we appeal to Zimbabweans to help us.”
