POLICE officers in Bulawayo were left shell-shocked after their fellow officer was crushed to death by a Zupco bus in along city-Khami Road near the flyover where the cops were manning a road block.
So shocked were the cops that they could be seen visibly shaling while attending to the accident. Initially the cops tried to carry the body to a metal coffin, but they quickly abandoned the idea due to the impact on the body which had broken it into several pieces.
The bus dragged the female cop for about 30 metres and in the process left body parts scattered and blood splattered all over the tarmac.
The officers later resorted to laying the coffin by its side and pushing the body into it. As they did so, other officers and members of the public who were at the scene crossed their hands at the back of their heads while others shook their heads in disbelief.
After the body has been taken away, the remaining police had to cover blood stains on the tarmac with sand.
It was not yet clear what caused the accident and cops who were on the scene were not keen to answer any questions, saying they did not have the clearance.
The police roadblock was targeting vehicles moving towards the city centre direction while the accident occurred on the road with vehicles going towards the western suburbs.
