Edmore Sibanda, danny Phiri released by golden arrows

Former Golden Arrows goalkeeper Edmore Sibanda has opened the lid on his relationship with Sifiso Mlungwana, saying it was fulfilling to watch him flourish.
Although the former Zimbabwe national team goalkeeper played second fiddle to the 24-year-old Mlungwana, he says he took pleasure in adding value to his career.

Following his exit from the Durban outfit, Sibanda has painted a picture of a team closely knit.

“Of course, I didn’t play much last season but I got so fulfilled knowing that I was adding value to someone’s career. It was nice to support Sifiso. It was an absolutely great experience. People think goalkeepers don’t see eye to eye, but we had the most amazing relationship and I wish him well in the future,” the man nicknamed ‘ZiKeeper’ told FARPost.

Arrows went on a fairy-tale run last season, finishing fourth under the tutelage of Mandla Ncikazi. The man who steered them to a respectable finish last season, Ncikazi, has since joined Orlando Pirates while a number of stars are linked with moves away from Arrows.

Sibanda’s countrymen Danny Phiri has also been released by the club after the expiry of his contract while Divine Lunga is set to join Mamelodi Sundowns as a free agent.

However, the former Witbank Spurs goalie, Sibanda, believes the club will continue to thrive. “It’s a football playing team, you enjoy playing football there. I know they will continue to do well,” he said.

His agent Bheki Ndebele said they are weighing up their options. “We’re obviously weighing up our options at this stage and trying to make sure he goes the right direction. There’s interest from elsewhere and we’ll know where he is headed in the next two weeks,” Ndebele told FARPost.

The 34-year-old joined Abafana Bes’thende in 2019 after impressing in the Africa Cup of Nations finals of that year.

Meanwhile, Arrows have appointed Lehlohonolo Seema as their new coach ahead of the new season. – Far Post
