Chamisa, Mwonzora defectors join Zanu-PF

A growing number of defectors from the MDC are joining the governing Zanu-PF as they are tired of the ‘kindergarten kind of politics’ offered by the opposition parties, the ruling party’s acting youth secretary Tendai Chirau has claimed.

He said the MDC-Alliance and MDC-T led by Nelson Chamisa and Douglas Mwonzora respectively were focusing more on noise making without offering alternative solutions to governance and the development of the economy.

“There is an overwhelming response to our social media campaign across the provinces where people are enquiring to join the party, young people in particular. To us, it’s a reflection and endorsement of the production that President Emmerson Mnangagwa is spearheading,” Chirau said.

“They have realised that pragmatic leadership, proper leadership is found in Zanu-PF. The two MDCs are parties where people just do kindergarten kind of politics; they just focus on noise making, without offering alternative solutions to the governance. So that’s why people are losing confidence with that party.”

MDC Alliance says its party is intact and would not lose sleep over defectors as it is attracting new members ahead of the 2023 elections.

In February MDC Alliance senior member Lilian Timveous defected to Zanu PF alongside Blessing Chebundo who had jumped the ship to Douglas Mwonzora’s MDC-T.

Nelson Chamisa’s MDC Alliance has also suffered recalls from Parliament by Mwonzora after the Supreme Court which nullified Chamisa’s ascendancy to lead MDC. ■
