Messi sets new record for Argentina

Lionel Messi became Argentina’s most capped player in their 4-1 win over Bolivia in the ongoing Copa America tournament.

Messi scored twice to help his country reach the quarterfinals of this competition, where they will face Ecuador on 3 July.

The six-time Ballon d’Or set up Papu Gomez’s sixth-minute opener, before scoring a penalty and adding a second just before half-time to extend his record goals tally to 75.

The 34-year-old playmaker made his 148th international appearance, to pass Javier Mascherano’s record of 147 caps for Argentina. ■
