Senior ZRP cops extract US$3,000 bribe by instilling fear in Swiss national

TWO senior police officers from Gweru are in trouble after they allegedly solicited for a US$5000 bribe from a Swiss national claiming that they would protect him from the regional police organisation, Interpol.

Allegations are that on the 9th of this month, the two senior cops, Alois Ruvhiyile (40) and Lakayana Musevenzi (37) approached a Swiss national Andreas Fuchs at Antlope Park and allegedly told him that he was on the Interpol wanted list for fraud in relation to a crime which he committed in Switzerland.

Prosecutor Frederick Macheza told the court that the duo took Fuchs to the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) offices in Gweru where they allegedly demanded US$5000 to release him.

The Court also heard that on the following day, Fuchs in the company of his manager, Lovemore Sikwiliti, approached Musevenzi and told him that he had managed to raise US$3000.

It is the state’s case that Musevenzi accepted the money and advised Fuchs that he was a free man.

Not happy with the manner he had been treated, Fuchs then approached the ZRP Officer Commanding Midlands Province, who ordered investigations that led to the arrest of the pair.

Ruvhiyile and Musevenzi have been remanded out of custody to 27th of next month on ZWL$5000 bail each. ■
