A MOTORIST got the shock of his life when his Mercedes-Benz vehicle vanished moments after he left it parked by the roadside.
Police have confirmed the vehicle theft incident which took place in Kamfinsa, Harare, this week Tuesday, at around 18.00 hrs.
The vehicle was stolen moments after the owner left it by the roadside to seek assistance after it had developed a mechanical fault. He returned to find the vehicle missing.
“The ZRP appeals for information which may lead to the recovery of a Mercedes Benz E320 CDI reg no. ACR 0283 and subsequent arrest of suspects involved in a case of car theft which occurred at Kamfinsa Shopping Centre along Arcturus Road, Harare on 22 June 2021 at around 1800 hrs.
“The complainant left his vehicle parked by the roadside after it had developed a mechanical fault to seek assistance, on return he found the vehicle missing,” said police in a statement.
Police would not say how the vehicle was driven or towed away, or whether the motorist had left keys in the ignition.
Recently, a 31-year-old Glen View man lost his gold Toyota Corolla Bubble and US$200 cash to armed robbers who forced out his two children sitting in the car at their home in the evening. .
The man had left the keys on the ignition while his two children were playing in the car at around 9pm.
The money was stashed in the dashboard of the car, when the two armed robbers attacked. They confronted the two children before ordering them to get out of the vehicle and drove off
