Court clears Mugabe’s son-in-law Simba Chikore of corruption charges

FORMER Air Zimbabwe chief operations officer Simba Chikore is now a free man after the court upheld his application of exception.
Chikore was being accused of flouting tender procedures and awarding security tenders to undeserving companies during the time he was leading the national airline in 2017.

Chikore’s charge of criminal abuse of office was scrapped off on the basis that Air Zimbabwe (Pvt) Limited is not a parastatal, thus he cannot be prosecuted like a civil servant given that they do not follow the same tender processes.

Still at the courts, Former Zimbabwe Parks and Wildlife Management Authority (Zimparks) board vice chairperson Idah Mupamhanga pleaded not guilty to three counts of criminal abuse of office and concealing a transaction from a principal.

Mupamhanga is alleged to have facilitated the awarding of lease agreements without following due procedure and showing favour to some companies.

She is also accused of concealing a ten thousand United States dollar transaction from Zimparks which she had received from a client. ■
