THE Judicial Services Commission (JSC) has announced the death of Morgan Nemadire, the regional magistrate who was based at Harare Magistrates Court.
He was 56.
The JSC did not state the cause of Nemadire’s death.
“The Judicial Service Commission has learnt with great shock about the untimely passing on of Regional Magistrate Mr Morgan Nemadire today, Saturday, 6 March 2021,” reads the announcement.
Nemadire joined the Ministry of Justice, Legal and Parliamentary Affairs in 1992 as a junior prosecutor. He later on became the Chief Law Officer.
In 2006, Nemadire moved to the Judicial Service Commission as a regional magistrate. He remained in that position until his passing on yesterday.
In 2014, Nemadire, who was Gweru regional magistrate at the time, got the shock of his life when a woman in the dock stripped to her underwear after he ruled that she be held in custody for lying under oath.
Nemadire was arrested in December last year charged with leniently fining a Venezuelan RTGS$700 for carrying 5kg cocaine worth US$469 000 in her luggage from Brazil into Harare.
The special anti-corruption unit in President Emmerson Mnangagwa’s office instructed the police to arrest the top magistrate on corruption allegations for passing a judgment that undermined the criminal justice system.
Meanwhile, funeral arrangements will be advised in due course, said the JSC. – Zimbabwe Voice 🔺
