ZANU-PF Midlands Province official and River Valley Properties Chief Executive Officer Smelly Dube has appeared in court on allegations of fraud and conspiracy to abuse of office, with the court hearing that she was corruptly given 2,169 stands by Government Ministers.
It is the State’s case that Dube is facing fraud charges involving the selling of state land and another charge of conspiracy to abuse of office.
The charges emanate from the Justice Tendai Uchena’s Commission of Inquiry Report.
The court heard that sometime in 2007, Matilda Manhambo, a former Housing Officer in the Ministry of Local Government illegally allocated 669 stands to the accused on behalf of former Governor Cephas Msipa at Woodlands Park.
Further allegations are that in 2012, Dube was unlawfully allocated state land totalling 1000 stands at Mabula, a farm in Zvishavane, by former Midlands Minister of State Jason Machaya and former Gweru district administrator Shepherd Marweyi.
Prosecutor Mirirai Shumba told the court that in 2013, the accused person was also illegally allocated 500 stands at Magakooshla in Shurugwi again by former Minister Machaya and former District administrator Shepherd Marweyi.
Dube went on to service the stands and misrepresented them to 500 beneficiaries.
Smelly Dube, who couldn’t attend the initial remand process due to illness, was remanded to this Saturday under police custody at a local private hospital where she is admitted. 🔺
