Chamisa blasts ED, Dendairy for ‘cruel’ eviction of 12,500 Chiredzi folks

By Mutsa Makuvaza
OVER 12,000 citizens in Chiredzi face eviction by President Emmerson Mnangagwa’s Government, which recently decreed that they must be displaced and their landholdings given to a Kwekwe-based dairy company that wants to grow grass for its cows.
In some video shared online by lawyers and people defending the Chiredzi folks, affected members of the Shangaan community pray that Dendairy be stopped from taking ther land.
According to the recently gazetted Statutory Instrument 50 of 2021, the affected communities must permanently mobve their belongings from the said communal lands which are to be used for Lucerne farming by Dendairy.
Based in Kwekwe, Dendairy is closely linked to the President, according to some widely circulating reports.
Here are some of the reactions to the latest developments:
This recent decree by the Mnangagwa regime displaces thousands of rural citizens in favour of a dairy company that wants to grow grass for its cows. In another video, affected members say the company is @dendairy which is based in the Midlands, Mnangagwa’s home province. pic.twitter.com/vv27bNjFoJ

Headman says @g_dendairy came with the blessing of the President @edmnangagwa to take their land. The Shangaan are unhappy, @ZLHRLawyers have stepped in to assist, and other lawyers to stop the evictions. @HStvNews reporting for the people #follow us support our work @PacheduZW pic.twitter.com/yNX47r2o1R

Mnangagwa is invading land for Dendairy.
– Pegging done without consultation
– Everything was done in secrecy
– MPs, Councilors, DA were unaware
– CIOs later came to take a census
– Their cars had no number plates

Growing lucerne is not a 'development' that would justify moving 12,500 people from their homes, particularly where they can grow the grass themselves. It's just another clever white guy with a black president in his pocket. t.co/r0ju3bQHA5

Meanwhile, MDC Alliance leader Nelson Chamisa has described the displacements as heartless and called for respect of the heritage and rights of the community folks.
“Chiyadzwa, Chingwizi, Chisumbanje Greenfuel evictions show disdain of citizens. Capital and profits must not undermine citizens rights, heritage and dignity,” said Chamisa.

Political pressure group Team Pachedu, which has been vocal against the developments, has called for the boycotting of Dendairy products which are widely available in shops countrywide.
Well Zimbabweans here's the thing. If my memory serves me right, @DavidColtart talked about boycotting these businesses that aided or belonged to Zanu PF elites incl Deindairy over 2/3 years ago. You completely ignored it. Now it's an issue? We are not ready to confront injustice. t.co/8HNahpT725

“Dendairy and Mnangagwa are evicting 12500 people from their ancestral homes in Chilonga (Chiredzi) for a grass farming project. This is the time for Zimbabweans to unite and stand with the people of Chilonga, even if it means boycotting Dendairy,” said the pressure group. — Zimbabwe Voice
