FOUR artisanal miners were trapped at Elvington mine in Chegutu after the shaft they were working in caved in yesterday.
One body has been retrieved, while one of the remaining three miners is said to be alive but has his leg trapped under a boulder.
The fate of the other two is unknown.
Mashonaland West Acting Provincial Mines Manager, Bongie Mpindiwa confirmed the tragedy and said rescue efforts are underway.
The Civil Protection Unit Mashonaland West division is coordinating the rescue operations. With the ground wet due to incessant rains over the past month, miners have been repeatedly warned against entering unsafe and abandoned shafts. 🔺
