Wadyajena on medical assassins: ‘Let’s not blame others for our foolishness’

By Mutsa Makuvaza

ZANU-PF legislator for Gokwe-Nembudziya, Justice Mayor Wadyajena, says blaming the deaths from COVID-19 of top Zanu-PF and Government officials on “medical assassins” is similar to blaming others for “our own foolishness”.

The Gokwe North district chairperson said this after Information Ministry Permanent Secretary Nick Mangwana apologized for insinuating that the deaths from COVID-19 of high-ranking Zanu-PF officials could be due to medical assassins hiding behind their medical profession to “finish off” politicians they didn’t like.

“I expressed my personal view on an issue a Dr had tweeted on. I had no intention to offend any doctor or call any of them names. Since it has caused such offence, I withdraw it and apologise for any offence caused. I just hope we can move and not be distracted from work at hand,” Mangwana wrote on Twitter.

Although Mangwana has since apologized, Wadyajena has weighed in and cautioned people to take care of their own lives and avoid being in a situation where they are hospitalized due to COVID-19.

“Cde PS (Permanent Secretary) has apologized but whatever anyone believes about “medical assassins” let’s take precautions to avoid COVID so we don’t blame others for our own foolishness. MaskUp and stay indoors!” warned Wadyajena.

In November, Mangwana attended a birthday party for his boss, information Minister Monica Mutsvangwa, and was seen hugging other top Zanu-PF bigwigs such as Transport Minister Joel Biggie Matiza and Justice Minister Ziyambi Ziyambi. Matiza succumbed to COVID-19 last week and was buried today at the National Heroes Acre.

Wadyajena declined to respond to whether he meant anyone had been foolish to contract the deadly virus infection.

To date, over 32,000 Zimbabweans have contracted COVID-19 since March 2020, and at least 1,100 have died, according to the latest update from the Civil Protection Unit and the Ministry of Health and Child Care. – Zimbabwe Voice 🔺
