THE Director of Irrigation in the Ministry of Lands, Agriculture, Water, Climate and Rural Resettlement, Dr Conrad Zawe, has died.
Dr Zawe, a top irrigation specialist and academic who was also a board member of the Agricultural Rural Development Authority (ARDA), died yesterday in Harare, sources in the ministry told the Zimbabwe Voice.
The Deputy Minister of Agriculture, Vangelis Haritatos, confirmed the death of Dr Zawe.
“Yes, it is true that he is no more. I have learnt with great sadness of the passing on of our Director of Irrigation Dr. Conrad Zawe, said Haritatos, who is also a Muzvezve legislator.
“He was a true gentleman, a professional, an extremely hard worker, and had great vision. He was instrumental in designing so many irrigation schemes that will help with our fight against climate change.
“Although he was not able to complete his job, we will definitely ensure that we accelerate what needs to be done in order to ensure food and nutrition security for this Nation. May His Soul Rest in Eternal Peace,” said Haritatos.
Dr Zawe was instrumental in ensuring food self sufficiency and was a key resource in the ARDA board. The ARDA board, chaired by Mr Ivan Craig, also comprises Mr Lance Jena, Dr Darlington Muzezwa, Mr Brian Harry Oldrieve, Mrs Philomonia Mandala, and Mr Willard Mhona.
