A 29 year old artisanal miner died on Saturday, while two others sustained injuries, at Gatawa farm in Bindura after a mine shaft collapse.
Twenty-nine year old Kelvin Matanda of Mupandenyama in Bindura was underground alongside two other artisanal miners from Glendale when the mine shaft in which they were working collapsed.
Mashonaland Central Police Spokesperson Inspector Milton Mundembe confirmed the incident saying Kelvin died on the spot while his two colleagues sustained injuries.
The body of the deceased was retrieved by other miners.
Inspector Mundembe appealed to the public to desist from illegal mining activities adding that the rainy season also poses a danger as the soil is loose during this period. 🔺
