Bhasikiti dumps Chamisa, joins ‘man-of-the-moment’ Mwonzora

By Mutsa Makuvaza

FORMER Minister and ex-Zanu-PF bigwig Kudakwashe Bhasikiti has announced he has ditched troubled MDC Alliance leader Nelson Chamisa for Douglas Mwonzora’s MDC-T.

Mwonzora, who split from Chamisa’s party to join the MDC-T early last year, was elected the party’s substantive leader at an extraordinary congress a fortinight ago.

Writing on his Twitter portal on Thursday, Bhasikiti said Mwonzora now runs both MDC Alliance and MDC-T, hence he was now an MDC-T member and specifically said “AM NO LOGGER A MEMBER OF MDC-A”.

Said Bhasikiti: “Like it or not it is true. All those MPs & Senators currently in Parliament under MDC-A are an open witness. MAY YOU KNOW ALL YOU MEN & WOMEN NOW, AM NO LOGGER A MEMBER OF MDC-A.”

Responding to the developments, fellow former Zanu-PF member Professor Jonathan Moyo said Bhasikiti had a tendency to join the “wrong baskets”.

“Freedom of association is a natural and constitutional human right. Enjoy it. Meanwhile, do yourself some good by realising that you’re not the only human being. Other human beings have the same right. Respect that. Otherwise, your propensity to be in the wrong basket is legendary!” said Moyo, who is in exile.

Bhasikiti was fired from Zanu-PF by Robert Mugabe in 2014 before joining a political project fronted by former Vice President Joice Mujuru, Didymus Mutasa and others including Rugare Gumbo. This was after Mugabe had infamously labelled Bhasikiti as being in the “wrong basket”.

The nomadic Bhasikiti later on winded up at MDC Alliance which he represented in the 2018 parliamentary elections and lost to a Zanu-PF candidate. – Zimbabwe Voice
