Armed robbers pounce on musician Mathias Mhere, rob him of cash

GOSPEL musician Mathias Mhere has been left traumatised but still singing praise to his God after armed robbers pounced on him at Mbudzi Roundabout in Harare and got away with his cash.

Mhere, who is riding high on the crest of a wave following his well received latest album Talita Kumi, says two Honda Fit vehicles blocked his way and armed gangs stormed out of the cars with barrels of guns pointed at him.

“I was blocked by two cars; a blue Hons Fit and a red Honda Fit near the roundabout as I was on my way home,” the 32-year-old artiste said.

“The men pulled out guns and demanded that I hand over all the cash I had. I had US$400 on me and I gave it away before they allowed me to proceed with my journey,” Mhere narrated his harrowing ordeal.

Earlier on the day, Mhere had performed in Kwekwe. Later on, he proceeded to Harare where he shared the stage with fellow gospel singer Blessing Gono.

“I just want to thank God that I am still alive as worse things could have happened. I will continue praising my God who has been protective of me and is the owner of our lives and our protector,” Mhere said.

He advises members of the public to take extra precautions especially during the festive season as there are robbers lurking out there on the country’s roads and streets.

Mhere, who latest videos are performing well on YouTube, has not revealed how investigations into the robbery are developing. ■
