ZIMSEC suspends managers over leaked exams

THE Zimbabwe School Examinations Council (ZIMSEC) has responded to the theft by one of its employees who leaked 2020 Ordinary Level Mathematics and English papers 1 & 2 examinations.

The two subjects are the most popular at O Level and crucial for both new and re-sitting candidates, hence the papers would be in high demand.

ZIMSEC PR Manager Nichollette Dhlamini, in an interview with TechZim, said the culprit, Arnold Maimba was a temporary worker.

She added that ZIMSEC usually employees such temporary workers to ease the pressures of the demanding time of exams writing sessions.

While investigations are ongoing, the fact that Maimba was able to leave the ZIMSEC printing premises in Norton with examination papers caused an uproar and the exams board has suspended since suspended two managers.

Dhlamini said the Risk Manager and Packing and Collating Manager have been suspended pending an investigation into how Maimba took home the papwrs unnoticed.

All security personnel at the Norton Printing Press have been suspended and replaced, she added.

The rumours started when images of the O level mathematics paper 2 started making rounds on Whatsapp well before the exam was to be written.

Shortly after Maimba was arrested for violating the Zimbabwe School Examination Council (ZIMSEC) Act, after evidence indicated he had stolen the O level mathematics and English papers 1 &2, examination papers Maimba had sold to candidates. ■
