POLICE have outlined the horrendous murder incident that took place Friday in Matova village under Chief Zimuto in the Gokomere area, Masvingo, when a 22-year-old man murdered his brother’s nine-year-old son.

The man, identified by police as Clever Chitiga, went on to cut off his victim’s head, shaved it and boiled it in a pot after having pounded it in a mortar using a pestle.

“The ZRP confirms the gruesome murder of a 9-year-old boy at Matova Village Chief Zimuto, Masvingo on 4/12/20 by suspect Clever Chitiga (22) for assumed ritual purposes.

“The minor was beheaded using a kitchen knife before the head was shaved in hot water and pounded in a mortar using a pestle.

“The head was boiled in a pot in preparation for feasting and the body of the victim was wrapped in a mosquito net before it was submerged in a nearby dam,” police said in a statement issued Sunday.

The boy, identified as Trevor Chitiga, went to play at his uncle Clever’s homesteaf Friday afternoon but did not return home at the expected time.

His parents began to look for him all over but could not find him. Earlier Saturday, people found Clever boiling the boy’s head in a huge pot but with the rest of the body missing.

On being approached, the suspect, who is said to be mentally-challnged, fled the scene but was arrested in Mucheke high density suburb in Masvingo.

Meanwhile, Police have arrested the suspect and recovered several exhibits.

“Members of the public are warned against strange, superstitious and unjustified beliefs for wealth; all perpetrators of crime will be arrested,” police said.
