Govt SSB ‘erroneously’ transfers over $2.5 million into private firm’s account

FOUR directors of a private land developer in Harare have been arrested after they allegedly feasted on more than ZW$2.5 million which the Salary Service Bureau (SSB) erroneously transferred into their company account.

The four directors of Savanah Land Developers Garikai Chikono, Tipei Chipato, Elliott Mukuze and Solomon Kamhote appeared in court on allegations of stealing from the Government salary processing department.

Allegations are that in June this year, during the processing of the civil service payroll re-run, SSB erroneously transferred the above-mentioned amount into Savanah Land Developer’s bank account with the FBC Bank.

The court heard that after receiving the funds, Chikono and Chipato made 25 debit transactions of varying amounts, leaving the account with close to $88 000.
