THE three people who were burnt beyond recognition when a Mercedes-Benz C200 sedan vehicle collided head-on with a BMW SUV in Kariba on Sunday were coming from a birthday party, it has emerged.
The Mercedes-Benz was driven on the wrong side of the road for 75 metres before the head-on crash, after which it caught fire and all the three occupants were burnt beyond recognition.

Police identified the deceased as Fortunate Dandajene (47), Jeremiah Matimbe (50), Charcels Mandebvu (50) and Corporal Patience Ganni (31) of the Zimbabwe National Army.

Police spokesperson Assistant Commissioner Paul Nyathi said investigations into the accident were ongoing.
“We are still conducting investigations into what could have caused the accident, but preliminary findings point to speeding as the driver failed to negotiate a curve,” he said.
The injured three are reportedly in a stable condition and are admitted at Kariba District Hospital.
The accident came exactly a week after top Harare socialite Genius “Ginimbi” Kadungure died in a car crash along Legacy Way (formerly Borrowdale Road) while coming from a birthday bash for his friend, who also perished with two other colleagues. ■
