A MACHETE-WIELDING gang went on a rampage beating up and stabbing people at a business centre in Silobela, Midlands Province, leading to the death of a local man.
Police have confirmed the incident with took place on Sunday this week at a business centre near Crossroads, some 60km west of Kwekwe.
The gang of seven, who are artisanal miners, were drinking beer when they had a misunderstanding with other patrons.
“The dispute degenerated into a fight and the group later armed themselves with machetes, logs, stones and knives,” police said. “They attacked people at the centre and stabbed a man aged 39 on the chest and abdomen leading to his death.”
Police have since launched a manhunt for suspects who are all still at large. An undisclosed number of people were inured in the melee.
In an unrelated incident, a Filabusi man died from a stab wound at the back of the head.
Police say the unidentified man ran into a bottle store, bleeding profusely and not able to speak. He was ferried to a hospital where he was pronounced dead.
Investigations are underway and no arrest has been made. – Zimbabwe Voice ■
