POLICE have moved in to dismiss speculation that Zimbabwe Miners Federation president Henrietta Rushwaya, who was arrested yesterday at the Robert Gabriel Mugabe International Airport, has been released.
Rushwaya was nabbed after detectives acted on a tip off and cornered her with 6kg of gold bars worth US $360,360,000 and destined for the United Arab Emirates.
However, following her arrest, speculation has been rife on social media that she had been released and did not even sleep in police custody. Police said Tuesday that contrary to that speculation, Rushwaya was in police custody and is set to appear in court today.
“ZRP reiterates that Henrietta Rushwaya was arrested and detained at Harare Central last night. She will appear in court today.
“Allegations that she was released without being taken to court are not correct and should be dismissed,” said the police in a statement.
Police have, however, refused to address reports that an intelligence operative was also arrested together with Rushwaya.
Stephen Tserayi was allegedly in the company of Rushwaya when detectives pounced on her at the airport as she was about to board an outbound flight. – Zimbabwe Voice ■
