Police open fire on suspect during arrest

POLICE in the Mbizo suburb of Kwekwe opened fire and shot man on his left leg at his home and claimed that he was restisting arrest.

Police say the suspect was also threatening to stab a police officer.

Elias Urayai (28) is said to have assaulted his sister-in-law, Agnes Khumalo, who is the complainant in a case that has spilled into the courts.

Khumalo says Urayayi was beating her, stripping her naked and also wanted to stab her with a kitchen knife.

However, Urayai dismissed this accusation arguing that when he arrived home from work, the police officers were already at his home and they told him he was under arrest.

Urayayi further claims when he demanded to know his offense that when he was shot in the leg.

“I was called to come home by my wife and when I arrived home i was shocked to see the police officers there waiting to arrest me. When I was trying to ask what my crime was that’s when I was shot in my left leg,” he said.

He will appear again in court for ruling on the 2nd of November 2020 as his lawyer said he could not be given a ruling in his current state of injury. – Zimbabwe Voice
