OK Mart employee convicted for stealing $4,500 whiskey

An OK Mart employee has landed in trouble after stealing whiskey amounting to ZW$4,500 from the Kwekwe branch of the leading retailer.

Ashraf Isaac (26) was slapped with a nine months jail sentence after he pleaded guilty to the theft charges.

Kwekwe Magistrate Samukeliso Gumbo heard that on a certain date mid October, Isaac stole bottles of whiskey at from the shop and stuffed them in his backpack.

“On the 12th of October 2020 at about 1700 hours, the accused person was at OK Mart Wholesale and was about to knock off duty , when he proceeded to the liquor section.

“The accused stole 1*750ml original best whiskey, 1*750ml Scottish blended whiskey and 1*750ml scotch whiskey he hid them in his satchel,” the court heard.

The accused was spotted by Godfrey Guyo (39) who is also an employee of the same shop. Guys alerted the security officer leading to the arrest of Isaac.

The total value of stolen goods is ZW$4504,99 and all was recovered.

Isaac was slapped with a nine months imprisonment. However, 3 months suspended on condition of good behavior and the remaining 6 months were suspended on condition that he performs 210 hours of community service. ■
