WARRIORS coach Zdravko Logarušić is praying that some of his key players do not pick injuries ahead of crucial back-to-back 2022 Afcon qualifiers against Algeria next month.
Reacting to performances by some of his players at their respective clubs at the weekend, Logarušić has expressed delight with hope they stay fit.
Zimbabwe face the Desert Foxes on November 12 and 16.
“We pray that the boys avoid injuries, we need to monitor them going forward and hope injuries will be avoided, let’s hope they stay health and keep that form,” said Loga.
“I have been watching the boys. I follow most of these guys and the hope is they continue doing well going into the match against the best team in Africa at the moment.
“We will see the progress of the boys and see how it goes. It is something good to see players try to reach their best form and we hope this will be the same story come November.
The odds are favouring who have gone 20 matches without a defeat but the coach can dare to dream after some top performances from the players.
Tino Kadewere scored his debut league goal for Lyon on Sunday in their 3-2 win over Starsbourg.
Captain Knowledge Musona scored in KAS Eupen’s 2-0 win over Royal Excel Mouscron in the Belgian top-flight while Khama Billiat contributed two assists from the corner kick as Kaizer Chiefs came from behind to beat Maritzburg 2-1 in an MTN8 quarter final encounter.
Terrence Dzvukamanja scored the only goal of the match as Orlando Pirates beat Cape Town City 1-0 in an MTN8 quarter-final.
“Musona is playing an interesting role behind strikers, let’s hope the other boys will also pick the good form,” said Loga.
The Croat is, however, concerned about Marvelous Nakamba’s lack of game time at Aston Villa.
Nakamba is yet to start in Villa’s opening four games, playing cameo roles while he got the nod in cup games.
“Our small problem is still Nakamba, he didn’t play the last four games, I think it’s because maybe the coach didn’t change the team, or because it’s a winning team. Also Hadebe was on the bench. But let’s see what we can do, what we can achieve against the best team in Africa at the moment,” said Loga.
Macauley Bonne, another key player for the team, was in action as Queen Park Rangers played to a 0-0 draw against Bournemouth in the English Championship.
Nakamba was an unused substitute as Aston Villa scored late to beat Leicester 1-0 in the Premier League.
In Turkey, Teenage Hadebe was also on the bench as Yeni Malatyaspor played to a 1-1 draw against Konyaspor. — H-Metro
