POLICE have so far impounded 3 859 unregistered vehicles, while 13 943 motorists have been arrested for operating public transport without number plates countrywide during the ongoing blitz to enforce the Covid-19 lockdown rules and ensure all vehicles have number plates.
According to the Vehicle Registration and Licensing Act, vehicles should be registered and always display their registration marks and numbers.
Police national spokesperson Assistant Commisioner Paul Nyathi warned the public that it was an offence to drive unregistered vehicles on the roads.
Number plates are available at the Central Vehicle Registry (CVR) and other designated issuing centers for US$80.30 a set.
Most motorists have been driving using temporary number plates following a shortage of number plates which has since been resolved.
