The people of Chegutu have received a shot in the arm following the upgrading of laundry facilities at Chegutu Hospital by a local mining firm.
A few months after the Deputy Minister of Health and Child Care, Honourable John Mangwiro raised the red flag over the deplorable state of the laundry department at Chegutu hospital, a timely intervention has come.
A local mining giant responded by constructing and equipping the laundry block with two 25 kg washing machines and a 50 kg drier valued at 65 000 United States dollars.
“The interventions were based on challenges being faced by the hospital. As a business we listened and trust that these practical interventions will serve the hospital and the community as well,” said Zimplats Senior General Manager processing Mr Louis Mabiza.
A representative from the Ministry of Health and Child Care, Dr Kudzai Madamombe received the donation on behalf of the government.
Mashonaland West Minister of State for Provincial Affairs and Devolution, Honourable Mary Mliswa and area legislator Honourable Dexter Nduna expressed gratitude for the timely intervention and appealed for other business entities to come on board.
“This is the note that we want to set to other mining houses and corporates in the province as we seek to raise our provincial GDP in this devolution era,” said Hon Mliswa.
“My wish is for other local mining companies to have a heart and replicate this gesture,” Hon Nduna said.
The handover ceremony coincided with the donation of ventilators and personal protective equipment to Chinhoyi Provincial Hospital and Norton Hospital. — ZBC News online
